A project that started out with the motto of “knitters arm each other” and reached a large audience in a short time was produced. They named this project “Knitting for Hope”. The knitting they made was not an ordinary knitting, this knitting contributed to both social harmony and hope.
Now the word was in the youth. They talked about what has changed in their lives with the project, what they have achieved and the social initiatives they have established.
Fatma Alkış, Majd WYO and Münire METİNİ, one of the founders of Knitting for hope, talked about the details of the social enterprise they established, their development stages and the wonderful harmony they achieved.
Fatma ALKIS:
After the social entrepreneurship and mentoring trainings we received from the project “SOCIAL INCLUSION OF REFUGEE YOUTH THROUGH SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP”, we developed a social enterprise idea together with immigrants and local friends. In the Social Enterprise project, we planned to create an environment where women can express themselves and help increase social cohesion while creating an employment area for disadvantaged women. In addition, for each amigurumi toy sold, we give toys to other children who do not have access to toys. This is the social part of our enterprise.
Majd ALWYO:
I gained a lot of knowledge and experience in the name of social cohesion and social entrepreneurship in the project “SOCIAL INCLUSION OF YOUTH REFUGEE THROUGH SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP”. The power of women inspired us to sprout our idea of social enterprise. I am very happy and pleased to be in this social harmony environment that we have created. I have always been a supporter for the increase of social enterprise and social inclusion. The project “SOCIAL INCLUSION OF YOUTH REFUGEE THROUGH SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP” is one of their predecessors, I hope there will be more such projects and I can be more supportive.
Munire METİNİ:
Many thanks to everyone who contributed to this project. I had no prior idea about making amigurumi toys, thanks to this social enterprise, we both learned and started to produce. We are very happy to see that we benefit from producing these products. After leaving our homeland due to the war and coming to Turkey, we confined ourselves to a box, but thanks to Knitting for Hope, we got the opportunity to get out of this box. First of all, I would like to thank Hakan and Rukiye GÜLERCE, and then I would like to thank everyone and the participants for their support throughout the whole project process.
